IB Math SL Topic 1 Review – Algebra

As of the 2013 test, IB Math SL covers the following objectives in Topic 1 (Algebra):

  1. Arithmetic Sequences and Series
  2. Geometric Sequences and Series
  3. Sigma (Summation)
  4. Binomial Theorem and Expansion
  5. (Quadratics – covered more in Topic 2)
  6. (Exponents and Logarithms – covered more in Topic 2)

Topic 1 – Algebra (this is the chapter summary and review problems, not the H&H review). You have a stapled copy of all the skill checks and answers from class; I can also email it to you if needed.

In addition, you can practice (and earn points on the MQ1 grade in the gradebook) for 2% for each of these Khan Academy algebra exercises you solve. To see whether it’s at “proficient,” click your username twice on the KA site to go to the user profile, then click “Skill Progress.” If it says “review,” that’s fine – it just means the site thinks you need extra practice. Practice Makes Permanent!

There are not exercises for Geometric Series (finite or infinite), nor for Binomial Theorem. For those, you will need to work on review separately. However, I would recommend you watch those videos. Simply type “binomial theorem” into Khan Academy’s search bar and the videos will come up. If you want to watch them on campus, let me know which videos ahead of time, and I’ll download them into a dropbox folder for you to access.

WE CAN DO THIS! 🙂
